No basic disagreement about your points, but what is a "sustained period" in your context? Days? Weeks? Months?

What I'm also looking at is competitive devaluation, and of course gold and similar are one of the best answers there too.

To me, the Fed action is like a stupid Boy Scout who panics when the campfire looks like it's going out and starts throwing handfuls of (somewhat) wet leaves onto it.

Lots of smoke, no substance, useless for any purpose.
