I like your summary...usually those instable periods include wars and very high deficits..

one confusing thing in all this is many will mention our annual bloated deficits are actually much lower as a percentage of GDP than when Reagan was president..probably phoney accounting not taking into account the long run costs of the war and our aging population with entitlements
