I take your point. I adore gridlock. But there's impasse-type gridlock, which is quietly unproductive, and bloody gridlock, which is raucous and bitter and nasty. We can't take any more of the latter.

Except this time, gridlock means no progress on immigration, energy, infrastructure, the environment, healthcare and so on.

We have already had an extended time out on key domestic issues. I don't think we can afford much more.
