Dude, in my class, the substitutes didn't come back. Hell, in one class in the eighth grade, we went through five PERMANENT (not substitute) teachers during the course of the year.

It sure can. When I went from a private grade school (where I was a terror) to a public high school, the teachers knew how to deal with me... and that was exactly how.
