John, Edge Pete (EPEX) -- They would have been looking at these same metrics, except the inputs they were using were a lot higher than being used presently, since the harsh reality of such things as bogus PUDs had not seen the light of day yet. A lot of folks (both retail and institutional) are investing in energy these days without an adequate appreciation of the uncertainties involved.

I see that EPEX is about 85%-owned by institutions, I didn't realize the % was so high.

We tend to assume that institutional investors are more savvy than retail, have more research resources to draw upon, etc. But I believe that when it comes to E&P stocks, these investors can sometimes be just as wrong as retail investors, as shown with what happened here.
