I think under the geneva convention rules after those afghans prisoners rioted and killed some of our guards , we could have executed them, instead we sent them to gitmo where they put on weight and got healthier. What would have FDR done, probably have them hanged, like he did to the Germans caught here, within 4 weeks, no appeal, no ACLU just a noose.

I think all immigration of Italians, Germans, and Japanese should have been halted immediately and all recent immigrants from those countries should have been investigated thoroughly. (and I am Italian and would have welcomed it at the time if I was alive!) Of course actions like that go against the ideals of the country, but IMO there are times when the ideals need to be tossed out the window because the risks far outweigh them. War is one of those times. Rounding people up and treating them poorly in a concentration camp was not a very good idea. But if you aren't doing anything illegal, there should be no reason for people to be upset by profiling. If anything, if people are honest decent citizens they should welcome the fact that the government is doing its best to round up criminals, potential traitors, potentially violent people etc... and increasing their safety. Being asked a few questions and getting investigated out is a very small price to pay for the greater good when you are doing nothing wrong. IMHO, that's twice as true now because a single person can do such extraordinary damage. If they want to check me out because I have olive skin and a beard, I'm all for it. The cost of that is a minor inconvenience. The cost of letting a terrorist get away during war time because of some ideals could cost me my life. I'm a value investor. I say close the borders to high risk immigrants and start checking everyone out (including me if I fit the terrorist profile). People can recognize abuse of that kind of power, but until there is actually some abuse, whining about it just makes all of us less safe.
