You can throw Eugene McCarthy into that mix. The difference with Obama is that he is VERY good on the stump, not stiff and TOO intellectual like them other guys.

The fact that he's black is a BIGGIE too. I always wonder how he would have fared if he had been a white guy with EXACTLY the same credentials. I don't think he would have gotten very far.
