HP ProLiant DL180 G5 Server - Xeon with DDR2

Looks like HP is now selling the Intel DDR2 chipset for Xeon processors with this server:

It comes with up to 16GB of 667MHz DDR2 memory, rather than the more expensive and higher power FB-DIMM memory. For those who do not intend to load their servers with memory, this seems like a great alternative. Prices start just north of $1500, with a ship date 10 days in advance.

HP currently holds #1 spot on the new SPECpower benchmark.

For comparison:

DL180 G5 (Intel Xeon E5450 @ 3.0GHz / 16GB DDR2) - 778
DL160 G5 (Intel Xeon E5450 @ 3.0GHz / 16GB FB-DIMMs) - 698
Colfax International CX2266-N2 (AMD Opteron 2216HE @ 2.4GHz / 16GB DDR2) - 203

Intel is now 11% better in performance/watt for small memory capacity machines.
