Ah, but none of them removed the buffalo. It was sort of like the little tribes fighting in Asia. Then the Mongols came in and wiped out nation after nation, sometimes killing every single one of them. The two funniest things were that Mongols were often called Tatars, a tribe they wiped out. And The Golden Horde of Russia was sometimes called the Kipchak Horde, a tribe they wiped out.

Ambrose Bierce wrote a great and very funny essay called "The French and The Commanches", which concluded that the Commanches were much more humane than the French. Silly, but great reading.

Correction, it was Mark Twain, not Bierce.
