Anti-Bush partisans claim they indicate a lack of intelligence, among other things. Yet others catalogue his famous or infamous Bushisms to reveal their humorous side creating a cottage industry of best-selling books and popular websites. We believe Bushisms are something quite different. We believe, like Freud, they indicate important unconscious psychological motives. They were named Freudian Slips, made famous by Dr. Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis. He believed many a verbal slip revealed unconscious beliefs, thoughts, intentions or repressed thoughts; for example, a husband who accidentally calls his wife “Mom.” Freudian Slip - “a slip of the tongue that is motivated by and reveals some unconscious aspect of the mind” Merriam-Webster Dictionary We will for the purpose of this study refer to Bush’s Freudian Slips as Bushian Slips, which is shorter. Bushian Slips affords us as an opportunity to better understand the unconscious mind of G W Bush and his character. We will see if his slips form a pattern. If they form a meaningful pattern we will consider whether many of the Bush administration many controversial policies and decisions can be better explained by Bush’s unconscious character than by objective circumstances and reality. We chronicled a few: Looking at the first Bushian Slip above. Does Bush really want to harm this country as much as terrorists? Look at his results. Ask yourself? Does G W Bush really want to be a dictator? Read Charlie Savage of The Boston Globe "Bush challenges hundreds of laws" on Bush signing statements and make your own decision. I think obviously yeah. Does Bush's believe as he stated in 1999 there should be limits to freedom? Illegal wiretapping and imprisonment of hundreds of innocents in the name of Bush's so-called "War On Terror". I write so-called because Bush's terror issues and terror tactics may have more to do with his psyche than our enemies out there in the real world. Other tactics that are not illegal may just work better. They always have. Does Bush believe as his Freudian Bushian slip indicates that "security is a roadblock to peace". I think yes. Look at the results of every strategic decision. Better yet ask the Iraqis? Ask the Lebanese. Ask the poor and the shrinking middle class? Does Bush believe that we should "encourage consumption". That was/is hard to call since Cheney kept his energy meetings secret which included among others Ken Lay, of Enron infamy. But clearly nothing has been done to discourage our oil addiction.
