No, Huckabee is a great man. I disagree with his religious right positions, but he is one of the greatest characters the GOP has ever produced. He makes McCain look like a crushing bore, and Romney like a total phony, which of course they both are.

As far as origins of the surname Huckabee, somewhere between England & the USA, the traditional "by" ending morphed into "bee." Huckaby/Huckerby was the original English surname. "by" is the old Norse word ending that indicates a former settlement of Danish invaders in northern England. The spelling of many surnames was butchered by immigration bureaucrats. familysearch.org

"ton" is the ending that indicates an Anglo-Saxon village in the same area. The Danes invaded through the Humber River and eventually a peace settlement granted portions of the land to them. Over time marriages blended the two cultures; however, the ancient place names reveal the locations of the once culturally distinct villages in Northern England. When surnames became mandatory many people chose their place of residence as their family name: Danish settlements=Whitby, Ashby...Ang/Saxon=Whittington, Ashton. Others chose their occupation: Baker, Taylor, Gardner, Cook, Naylor(nailer), Carpenter, Clark(clerk), Coleman(coal miner), etc. etc.
