Actually, my "narrowly based" remark was a reference to the limited number of stocks still defying gravity, not the limited number of players chasing them -- on the contrary, I think way too many clowns are using the same playbook (and that includes so-called professionals, which necessarily encompasses the quants) You're right about the 10% limit thing -- the circuit breaker system in place today would force an extension of the event over 2 or more days if we were to repeat a 1987-scale melt Funny thing though -- IMO a fast break would be healthier and easier on the psyche than the Japan-style "death by a 1,000 cuts"
