You must be incredibly ignorant of Intel CPUs, overclocking or both. All the Intel X series processors have unlocked multipliers. That, however, is totally irrelevant as any locked multiplier Intel processor can manage a better overclock than the Phenom "Black Edition" in a matter of seconds.

It doesn't matter what you do to these stupid Phenoms. You can try exotic cooling you can tweak it till the cows come home. Here is an 1100+ post thread of people trying to get the Phenom to overclock to something that isn't a joke.

Total failure. It doesn't matter what you do, the Phenom does not overclock simply because it has no headroom. That's it. This is even more true of the retail than it was of the ESs, the scattered reports of 3GHz you saw with the ESs are nowhere to be seen with retail. It's obvious those were just cherrypicked parts sent out to reviewers to deceive people into thinking the Phenom is slightly less crappy than it is, just like the 9700s that were sent out for review in November and are now NEVER going to be released. What a joke.

The Phenom is an utter and complete failure.
