I couldn't stand the idea of watching two hours of that, so I turned it off after about thirty minutes. I guess I'm not qualified to talk about it, really. I'm not too worried about the difference in our musical tastes. I like The Who, Zeppelin, and even some BOC, though. My girlfriend, however, has done something that is almost a dealbreaker for me. She started playing the soundtrack to I Am Sam in the car while driving her six-year-old twins around. It's all Beatles tunes done by other artists. They really love the songs, and now they've become imprinted with those versions. When you first hear a song done a certain way and you grow to love it, other performances often sound "wrong" after that. So this weekend we were all in the car, and Charlene put on Let It Be. When Across the Universe came on, one of the girls started singing along with it. Then she stopped and said, "Put on the real one." Naturally, I was horrified. From now on, those girls don't get to hear any more Beatle songs done by other artists until they've learned to appreciate the original performances. - Allen

I liked Moulin Rouge a lot. It seemed to me a new form of musical. As for traditional Broadway type musicals, I can't stand most of those. A few are OK but many of the 'standards' leave me cold. I probably got off to a bad start. The first one I saw was 'Oklahoma'. Hated it. I like the Beatles , but after so many years of hearing those tunes, I could go a long while without that music, so will pass on Across the Universe. My favorite Beatle was George Harrison, Lennon was a close second. They transformed pop music for a generation, no doubt about that.
