I really admire McCain for his tough talk and moral clarity on waterboarding and torture. When done in our name, they degrade us as a nation.

But just because McCain talks the talk, it's not clear he walks the walk.

In 2000 when McCain was running against Bush in the Republican primary, he ended every speech by saying he'd tell us the truth even if it wasn't what we wanted to hear, even if it was politically unpopular, that he would never lied to us.

But then he admitted he ducked the confederate flag issue for political reasons, that he thought it would cost him votes if he told the truth: that he thought no state should fly it as part of their state flag.

In other words every time he said he'd never lie to us, he was lying and he knew he was lying. Every time he said he'd tell the truth even if it was politically unpopular, he was lying, and he knew he was lying.

His whole straight talk routine was just shtick, and coming clean about the Confederate flag was just more shtick as far as i was concerned...
