I had a kid in my office this spring who was losing his house. He is a sheetmetal worker and his wife worked at carnation. Between them they were probably making around 75K a year. 80K of SUV's and pickups in the garage of their 275K house. And it was their first house. Give me a flippen break.

I still maintain the liability is with those who approved the loans. Rates got so low that as you said - people wanted as much home as they could get. Its not all that dissimilar from leasing a car. People don't qualify to buy the cool car they want so they turn to that teaser lease rate. Now, there are some legitimate reasons to lease a car as a business but my belief is that you NEVER lease what you can't afford to buy
