Jim,
I was in Benicia, the loveliest town in the San Francisco Bay area.

Some of my friends did sustain household damage in Loma Prieta. One told me of watching her hardwood floor rock and roll. She lived in a house which had been built for the officers during the Civil War, but she had no damage. In other words, her house remained intact and not damaged by Loma Prieta.

Our fire house fell victim to damage and had to be closed and rebuilt. In the meantime, the fire department erected a large, industrial tent. One of our local cartoonists of the day penned a cartoon, replete with a very large, zippered tent, saying (paraphrasing), "We can't come to your fire just now; our zipper is stuck." Funny, funny stuff!
