If it is indeed the hedge funds that participated in the PIPEs that are also the short sellers (a reasonable conclusion), then you're incorrect. They'd merely deliver their shares that are now available to trade against the short sale.

Obviously, not every hedge fund shorted the common along with buying the PIPE, the high volume of the last couple of days shows that.
