One wonders what it is?

Of course one wonders. Unfortunately ALL are choices are simply the musings and writings of other humans on this our only human planet in the one universe. Some of the humans claim their writings are based on sources outside this world, but there is of course no evidence to support that claim.

I don't have any great attachment to either the single or multi-universe theory. The bifurcating universe theory strikes me as nonsense (every quantum event bifurcates the universe so that all states have a reality) but I know that recently lots of smart physicists have been giving it more credence. I think such views all hinge on theories about negative energy, in order to satisfy conservation of energy. Our intuition is that the immense universe surely must be made by something because it takes energy, but if the universe has net zero energy, then our commonsense views are not of much utility. I'll keep a very open mind on the issue and see what theoretical and experimental physics has to say during the rest of my life.
