Chipguy:

The quality of CPUs would go down as Intel would sell cheaper to make shit to the same people for more money. Look what happened when AMD didn't compete in a market segment. Intel would slow down introductions, didn't lower prices and slowed down fixes for things. When AMD rentered the market, Intel had to introduce new models much faster, drop prices and fix problems faster. With AMD competing, the quality of CPUs went up.

And AMD does not make hot CPUs. That crown goes to Intel. QX6800, 212W TDP. AMD doesn't make inferior CPUs. That crown again goes to Intel. Just look at the current errata lists. AMD doesn't make slow CPUs. That's Intel. A100 Pentium M 600MHz SC. As for all three, one only has to look at Merced (P4, i820, FDIV and of course, P3-1.13).
