thats because a lot of people find the extreme sports aspect of Everest appealing, but really should never be up there, and those people are getting a lot of good people killed if you ask me.

And it isn't just americans either, you would think American bravado is causing this but last I read the Japanese and Koreans have caught this bug too and are losing people at a much higher rate than us. Maybe Live2 can confirm

OT: Climbing Everest, I always wanted to do it, but I don't have the ability. I know my limits, and they are nowhere near that kind of adventure. A lot of people who try that climb are probably excellent climbers, but just not good enough-- more money than brains, I suppose. There is a small window of time in May in which you can summit (like 5-7 days typically). Then, there is a very narrow trail close to the top where people who are slow can make everything grind to a halt. That's the spot where people get into big trouble. It's hard to make good decisions above 25,000 ft. aka "The Death Zone."

When I was in India, my wife and I went to the north to take a peek at the Himalaya. Just amazing.

"Everest has TRAFFIC JAMS of climbers now, sometimes climbing past the frozen, mummified bodies of guys that didn't make it."

Kindly remind those folks not to defile the emergency food supply.
