George Allen, former Senator from Virginia and darling of the religious right. He was preordained as the religious right's candidate for 2008 until the unfortunate "Macaca" incident (and an incredibly poorly run campaign) allowed that fighting Marine Jim Webb to unseat Mr. Allen from the Senate. This gave Huckabee a slot to fill as the candidate of the religious conservatives...also attempted to be filled by others.

Alas, Mr. Allen's frontrunner status crashed much sooner than did Rudy's...

(He was the GOP front runner, the 'anointed' by Party insiders, for this Presidential election in '08... before Guiliani was the front runner....)

Son of the old Redskin's coach, this California-raised 'good ole boy' toasted his own Presidential run when he lost reelection to his VA Senate seat from which he expected to be launching his national run....
