In addition, when your cost basis goes down to zero, you start paying taxes on those divvys as usual

You can escape all taxes when you die by giving the shares to your kids (or some other charity before death)

<Harper is a liar, a scoundrel, a fool, and a traitor . He is much more dishonest than George W. Bush, who is merely a fool and a bastard. Canadians may start to see Harper for what he is.>

Unfortunately, he's our cleanest dirty shirt. <G>

<< My enjoyment of this tax perk has been considerably spoiled by the actions of Mssrs. Harper and Flaherty RE: Canadian trusts. I have a 40% loss on my original investment. There is always the possibility of another change of government or change of policy. Harper is a liar, a scoundrel, a fool, and a traitor. He is much more dishonest than George W. Bush, who is merely a fool and a bastard. It is possible that Canadians may start to see Harper for what he is. >>

What a laugh. You take a hit on your Canadian trusts and Harper becomes a "liar, a scoundrel, a fool, and a traitor" -- worse than Bush (as if that was possible).

Harper et al were forced to change the trusts once Canada's two largest telecoms planned to make the conversion, and the banks were next. Trusts were never meant for such companies. Things changed. Decisions had to be made. Get over it.

And here we have Bush whose fabricated excuses to attack Iraq have resulted in the deaths of over 4,000 Americans, 10s of thousands of injured Americans, and 100s of thousands of dead Iraqis. He's flagrantly violates US federal laws and has borrowed trillions of dollars to wage war. Good luck paying that off. And the worst of his legacy will be the Supreme Court.

But of course, Harper is worse because you lost money on your CDN trusts.
