Or... you could thank the political calculations of the Bush White House if you liked. :-)

The President could have had either an EXTENSION of the powers of the *existing law*, or the new law he says he wants (minus only legal immunity for phone companies who haven't even been tried yet, let alone convicted of anything yet <g>), ANY TIME that the President wanted.

Instead of either of those options, (the old law or the new rules he said he wants), apparently the Prez decided that he'd prefer to have a campaign issue for the Fall....

Actually it takes some guts to be gutless worms. Pelosi knew that this would make her anti American leftist supporters happy and calculated that there are not many people who care about the security of this nation who will vote after McCain got the nomination.

We will have to prove her wrong and return her to the role she was meant for: minority leader.
