Actually, I agree with you.

The problem is that when it came to Iraq, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't. Some people thought diplomacy wasn't given a chance, yet it was indeed given many, many chances.

We might have had to accept that and just contain Saddam militarily, but then what do you do about sanctions which hurt innocent people more than the guilty?

There are never any clear-cut answers. Maybe that's one problem with the Bush administration. (Yeah yeah, not the only one, but still.) They might have been tempted to create their own "clear-cut answer."
