The companies most likely account for them differently for financial reporting than for taxes. In the US only the actual costs of manufacturing and distribution should be deductible for tax reporting purposes. Other taxing jurisdictions may have similar restrictions. Of course for their stockholders they would want to report the full cost including overhead allocations. It is debatable which is more appropriate, and IMHO outside of the scope of this forum.
