And I try not to generalize one of my best friend's experiences. He's on Medicaid (Medi-Cal, actually - California's version that supposedly pays better than the minimal Medicaid provided in poorer states such as Mississippi). All of his doctors are part of Cedars-Sinai Hospital, one of the most elite of the elite of Southern California hospitals. Some are BIG NAMES in their fields. The care is outstanding, if severely rationed. But all of that is due to his undoubted people skills which got him through the door in the first place and kept him from being kicked out once in. Because he's so friendly and memorable, when odd things do come up (and they always do), lines melt, co-pays disappear, and physicians who would never consider giving a Medicaid patient the time of day end up giving him hours of their time without charge.
