uncle sam will not take care of you if you spend all your money and live it up. at least not according to the standard of living you were accustom to. i left many managers with that idea 15 years ago when i retired. they were shocked , why i have 15 more years to work and save for retirement. too bad most of the them were surplused from jobs they thought never possible the following year. most of them are still working.

do you want to exist in retirement or live your retirement. there is a major difference between uncle sam helping some or you having saved some.

Social Security is looked at as being very different because people make "contributions" to it for years.

If Social Security is supposed to be some welfare system for the disadvantaged, then fine. Then eliminate the Social Security tax and just raise other general taxes. General taxes are used to pay for welfare.

Call a spade a spade.
