I can comment on Virginia because I live here. I can observe on the other states.

For Virginia, weather was a distinct problem roads being blocked for hours with accidents due to ice and snow. The ice was the worst of it------it was remiscient of ice storms that I have seen in other areas. Not safe on foot or in a vehicle.

About 2/3rds of Virginia experienced this on election day.

Flu season-----a definite factor---flu vaccine here did not match the flu that people were getting. Two friends, not old, developed pneumonia; a Godmother died; and another friend hospitalized for some variety of flu. By the time the Primary Day came Virginia was having widespread flu.

Most will vote in the General Elections leaving it up to the campaigns and party activists to decide who will be the parties' nominees.

I have no doubt that the turnouts would be higher if Primaries were held to suit the seasons better.
