Its way complicated but simply stated the purpose of any military is multifaceted. Basically a military is a violent force tasked with the security of the culture it serves and with supporting the interests of the culture it serves. The interests of America are founded upon a balance of principled interests and strategic interests. The principled interests are based on law and justice dedicated to a fair and equitable treatment of individuals and groups. The strategic interests are focused on developing resources, establishing a strong economy , wealth, and being able to influence world affairs toward our benefit rather than fall victim to other forces in the world. Where genuine peace is a false premise to start with considering nation states have competing interests; peaceful alliances, as transient as they may be, are beneficial and worthy goals that can be supported by military operations.
