The same kind of article could be written about any one of the contenders, using similar rhetorical trickery.

"Two anonymous sources say that Obama should avoid the woman so as not to give the appearance of a sexual relationship. Obama has denied a sexual relationship existed."

If they did that to Obama, it too would be a hit piece.

"If it is a hit piece then it is a completely fair one. Quotes all sources, and never tries to lay the A word on him."

It was written to leave the impression that he had a liaison with the woman. How an article is written is as important for journalist integrity as what is written in it. It fits my description of a hit piece.
