What we have to do is pretend the ensuing chaos is the fault of the Iraqis.

A Pontius Pilate approach.

agreed. We are responsible for cleaning up the mess we made. And even early on, when the pundits were claiming we were winning in Iraq, immediately after the statue was tumbled, I felt we had created a mess there, because Saddam was the only secular leader in the region. As a woman I don't want another maniacal cleric ruling *any* country in the world. I don't care if the cleric is a US ally or not. This bizarre treatment of women in Muslim countries scares me, and that was the outcome of a US **win** in Iraq. So even from the fist moment we set foot there, it was a losing proposition as far as I am concerned. Saddam was the best leader possible for the region, and we killed him.

Iraq was never a problem until we went in there.
Let them figure out how to fix it now. They have oil money, we don't.
If they harbor a grudge against us for not committing indefinitely, tough. Let them come fix our problems.

by the way the overall solution to the Iraq/Afganistan problem is alternative energy. So there you go, spend a fortune on alternative energy and solve a long term problem that has been plaguing us for 40 years. That my solution.
