W's cowboy move in Iraq lost us the support of nearly all the other countries who were promoting the UN efforts. Dumbya decided he could do it himself, unlike his father, who actually built a coalition. I also agree that countries can assist each other to stop terrorism in their own countries. The problem I see is allowing Iraq to devolve into civil war, lose all rule of law, and then you can't get any kind of decent intelligence. The knock against the spy satelites is that they can't replace human contact, we heard that repeatedly after 9/11; our reliance on satellites is a prime reason we didn't learn of the attack in advance. You can't anticipate where an attack may take place via satellite, especially now that al Quaeda is aware of all the electronic spying, and will take measures to prevent interception. AQ does not operate with large amounts of troops and equipment that can be easily monitored from space. Let's be clear. I'm no hawk. I was against the war from the beginning. I wanted the UN to continue to do its inspection job, or get multilateral support for military action via a UN resolution. McCain's statement that we could be in Iraq for 100 years fills me with dread, especially since all our allies have left. On the other hand, I think the situation will be worsened by simply yanking all the troops from Iraq when the next Pres is elected. Afghanistan has become a worse mess than BEFORE we went in there, because we took our attention away from it to focus on Iraq, yet another brilliant Dumbya move. It's a mess, and the easy, simple solution will not likely be the correct one.
