The New York Times story is true and well-sourced. Just because the sources are not revealed doesn't mean they are not real people telling the truth. The entire Watergate story was based on un-revealed sources including Deep Throat who we now know knew what he was talking about and was telling the truth. This is no different. The NY Times would never put out a false story, and they double-checked their info for three months. That's why they sat on it. If they really wanted to hurt McCain they would wait until October. Or they would have done it before the NH primary.

RELIABLE SOURCES on CNN says the NY Times did nothing wrong and what they did was totally normal for a story with this much political sensitivity. The NY Times also published many embarrassing articles against Bill Clinton in the 90's. many-many.
