<<<Remember when the Soviet Union failed?>>>

Yes. They had a bad system.

<<<That system was horrid but only a few people jumped at the opportunity for something different. Most were reluctant to come out of the dark.>>>

I remember differently. A lot of people resisted. A lot of people died. A lot of people were killed or put into jails.

<<<Social services are predominantly a one-way street.>>>

The social services that we are talking about come from countries that have democratically elected governments.

The people in these countries that I talk to generally like these services and prefer them over what we have.

"Once people are used to getting something for free, it would have to be absolutely horrid before they'd consider giving it up."

Whose getting anything for free???? You will pay for it just like we pay for SS and Medicare...... Those who can't afford it will get subsidies......you're not against that are you?

re:Soviet Union......no, I don't remember strong resistance to change from Communism to Capitalism.... I remember civil strife and an economy that was in deep do-do..... I always felt that Gorbachev had the right tempo of change....more like what the Chinese are doing successfully.

" Social services are predominantly a one-way street."

Why would they not be if they are improvements on the old system and benefit more people....What would you reverse?
