Now, they need to try and find some dead ones and extend the record back for several centuries. How does one know that the last 40 years has not been repeated rather regularly?

And just who is going to fund this research while the majority of the GW community is focused solely on reducing CO2 emissions?

Planktos, which was focusing on much of that research, just went out of business.

WHOI (Woods-Hold Oceanographic Institute) gives the impression that it's unlikely there will be any substantial $$$ available for phytoplankton/GW research..

And since the MSM doesn't seem to think it's important, then our policy makers won't think it's important enough to fund..

So Al Gore's followers will continue to enjoy most of the funding that is obtained..
