For that trifecta, pick a high end beach resort close to Tulum. Do the ruins tour thing from the hotel, or rent a car and hire your own guide at the gate. You can also easily get to Coba from the Tulum area, although Coba is not restored to the same degree as Tulum. If you're really adventurous and your passport is legit, you could even take a run into Guatemala to see Tikal -- a major site
