I agree there is a similarity- but it was different enough that if you wanted to see it as a different animal, you could. After all, we had the fig leaf of the UN to hang on to (though logically that didn't work very well, imo).

And as I recall no one said Vietnam was going to bomb America- or that it had been part of some attack on American soil; instead it was a matter of dominoes. In this case we had clearly false data regarding present "danger" to the US- this was not present in the case of Vietnam-- at least as far as I can remember.
