I admired McCain in 2000 and loved the monicker 'straight talk express'.

But he is trapped in a political party unique unto itself. It is a sad caricature of the Grand Old Party of 50 years ago. I don't even know what name it deserves.

But it does deserve and needs (for the health of the country) to be driven so far out of power that it must re-create itself into something that brings benefit to segments other than the ultra-rich and arm-chair warriors.

I could be wrong, but my world view leaves me wanting full Dem control of everything and we'll just have to see what happens.

However, I must confess it makes me a little nervous. <gg>

KyrosL;

I am now afraid McCain will end up being another Reagan in terms of fiscal discipline, if he is elected

Interestingly, things likely will be similar when the next president takes over as they were when reagan stepped in. Crushed housing, and very high inflation. The difference is that interest rates then were also very VERY high.

I agree with you that McCain seems to have abandoned fiscal conservatism. I think he wants to be president beyond anything else. Sad.
