Of course, Obama's camp can portray that as a positive. But it seems to me that someone with more foreign policy experience who is from the south would be a good match.

Webb has been around. He was Reagan's secretary of the navy, I think. Certainly had a cabinet position in Reagan's administration. Moreover, he's articulate, writes well (several books), is on the right wing of the Dem party but has been critical of the Bush admin's foreign policy.

I can't quickly think of anyone who fits the bill you are talking about. Sam Nunn, perhaps, but the negatives there are numerous and far outweigh the positives. Max Cleland would be a better fit for Obama but Webb strikes me as a better candidate.

Any other thoughts?
