<OT> Re Swift Boat Vets Against Kerry
It is not necessary to like GW Bush in order to be appalled by Kerry's self-presentation in his political campaign as an heroic war vet "reporting for duty" as POTUS.

When the men who knew Kerry in the war saw the misrepresentations of Kerry's conduct as a soldier, I believe they had a duty to their fellow citizens to say "I was there and that is not the way it was." Which is what many of them did via the Swift Boat Vets organization.

If you think Kerry would have been a better president than Bush, fine, you have a right to your opinion. But I don't see how anyone could think the Swift Boat Vets did wrong to express their opinions as soldiers of Kerry's conduct as a soldier.

The Democrats were spending $$$ promoting that false image of Kerry as part of their '04 election campaign. Supporting the Swift Boats vets could be seen as largely a political move on Pickens' part, it's true. Since I found Kerry such a sleeze for trying to misrepresent himself like that, I liked the Swift Boat Vets for speaking up, and I liked T Boone for supporting them. But I should not have included that support in writing about T Boone's philanthropic contributions etc.

Regards,
diana
