As far back as 2005 I began trying to raise the issue of Muqtada's threat in the world. I described what I predicted to be a rise of the Mehdi Army, and it has been occuring almost exactly as I predicted. I compared the threat of a rising Mehdi Army under Muqtada to be massive compared to the threat of Al-Qaeda in 2005. I likened Al-Qaeda to a kindergartner's training camp compared to what we may be facing in the future from the Mehdi Army. No one on SI thought my treatment of a Mehdi Army threat was even rational, partly due to the mystical lore of the Mehdi that was not common knowledge at the time, but also because Muqtada was thought to have been neutralized in lieu of other powerful insurgent forces, like the Badr Brigade. Not one single left wing or right wing poster on SI, the media, or government report at that time represented Muqtada as a serious concern. He and the Mehdis are still not represented as an official enemy threat. They maintain a significant and increasing block of elected government representation in Iraq. So what, now we start beating the drum that bush let him go? That doesn't seem to genuine. Where were you then Chris? Are you saying you think we should go after Muqtada now? Put up or shut up. Otherwise I can't hold anything you say about the Mehdi's as credible, now or in the future. Take a stand on substance for once. more_rough_cut
