Actually the trend it opposite of that. You chose a sufficiently short time frame to be able to make a statement that while technically correct is contrary to the long term trend. Bill Gates has but a fraction of the relative wealth held by Vanderbilt, JP Morgan, Andrew Carnege... At the same time the standard of living of those at the bottom is much higher when using similar time frames.
