And our military-industrial complex needs enemies in order to thrive, don't forget.

But times are definitely changing, and the fraud of my above statement may become more exposed.

It is my hope that the direction the EU has taken....its abdication of maintaining a strong military defense for itself coupled with its willingness to spend and maintain a different government social benefit system.....will be better understood and evaluated by our policymakers.

Because it's beginning to look like the business and investment community in the EU is better positioned to compete in the world community than we are. It's hard to quantify but I'm noticing a trend that makes me uneasy looking forward.

And I'm wondering how much these major structural differences between us and them have to do with it.

Who cares what the Cubans in Florida think?

The Cubans in Florida and New Jersey are very active politically. In a state like Florida where the vote is evenly split, they are the swing.

If an administration moves toward normalizing relations with Cuba, they simply throw Florida away. At a lot of levels, presidential, senatorial, gubernatorial. Etc.

That's why Clinton did nothing. With Reagan and Bush I it was all the anti-communist crap. With Bush II, it's the same as with Clinton.
