We could be experiencing a generational shift in the political landscape. Personally, I'm hoping for total Dem control backed by a sweeping voter mandate that gives them power and time to try and turn things around. Just like the Rs were given.

Like Jimmy Carter got. Are you old enough to remember what happened to the Carter administration when it came to Washington? They stepped on lots of landmines. Lots of their appointments simply blew up in the faces because they hadn't been properly vetted. And Carter had been a governor, he was experienced compared to Obama!

John McCain is someone very different from President Ford, though. He was never part of the Bush administration, and has generally been a thorn in the side of the Bushies. He is well positioned to run against Bush even though he is in the same party. That's what Sarkozy did in France. He ran against the Chirac record even through he was the same party, and he won.

"At the same time, the enormous increase in Dem turnout this year for both Hillary and Obama shows how much change is wanted."

Kate - all it shows to me is a vocal group of democrats want a woman and another vocal group want a black.
