We do not generate much electricity with oil. Most new generation is either natural gas which is being imported in larger quantities to support generation and coal.

The point of the article is to show the economics, and how wind power is subsidized.

Presently 50% of USA generation is from coal and 25% or so nuclear.

When it is not sunny or windy where are you going to get your power from? Also the grid cannot operate with large % of weather dependent generation.

So new nuclear and coal plants are required.
