I am not surprised by your disdain, and in fact I predicted it. Your description of short selling and its effects does not fit my experience. I was a heavy short seller of the technology index a few years ago, and also bought a lot of puts on dot.com stocks. For a year or two I repeatedly shorted large blocks of what is now QQQQ. I guess I will say more plainly that I think the managers of GLD know exactly what they are doing, and that what you say is just the ignorant speculation of an outsider.
