You are biased. So it distorts what you think you heard or what you remember reading.

Michelle Obama (on 2/18 in Wisconsin) did not say something like "feel proud of the USA until her husband won rave reviews" at that event.

She talked about true pride and "am proud", which refers to reality, to the work she and others and her husband were doing.

See "the first few meanings of "proud" are about something inner, something achieved or done. Not a feeling of pride, which is what McCain referred to in his response." in
