I am not disputing this. I am just pointing out that it wasn't only oil that was the problem in the '70s and that it was other commodities that eventually kicked things off. The fish meal/soybean shortage eventually led to rolling shortages of many things across the country. And it spooked people.

Yeah, many things are different. But many of the differences aren't better, but likely to make things worse. The situation is very, very fragile.
