I doubt that ! The regular shorting process requires stock to be borrowed. If all issued stock has been redeemed, who will lend the shorts stock to sell? I think that shorts would be called long before that stage is reached.

The resultant squeeze could be avoided only by selling gold to GLD in exchange for shares ?
